Measure total wall and ceiling area, subtract large openings, multiply by the number of coats and divide by the paint coverage rate. Add roughly 10% for touch-ups and waste.
Realistic example
For 40 m² of surface with two coats and coverage of 10 m² per litre, allow about 9 litres including waste.
