Planning note: Building rules, product standards, taxes and professional requirements differ by location. Use this guide for preparation, then verify local requirements.
Before installation begins
Design surveys, samples, permits, structural advice and service investigations can all occur before cabinets arrive. Confirm whether the supplier's design has been checked against final on-site measurements.
If the kitchen will be unusable, budget for temporary cooking, food storage and additional meal costs.
Removal and preparation
Old units, flooring, tiles and appliances need safe removal and disposal. Once they are gone, walls and floors may require plastering, levelling, damp repair or strengthening.
Hazardous materials and outdated wiring or plumbing can change the plan. Do not cover these problems to preserve an unrealistic timetable.
Services and finishing
New socket positions, lighting, ventilation, plumbing, gas work and appliance connections may involve several qualified trades. Include testing, certification and making good after chases or openings.
Decorating, splashbacks, trims, sealants and final adjustments are often outside a basic installation price.
Delivery and project management
Check delivery access, storage, damaged-item procedures and the cost of return visits. Delays can extend equipment hire or temporary arrangements.
Maintain a contingency for hidden conditions, but protect it from optional upgrades until the core installation is safely complete.
